1967

The Semi-Final of the U21 Championship of 1966 was not played until March 1967 and Kilmihil were defeated by Kilmurry Ibrickane.

In April 1967 Kilmihil were beaten by Kildysart in the 1966 Junior Final.

The score was:  Kildysart 3-3   Kilmihil 0-8

In June Kilmihil defeated Cooraclare in the Divisional Final of the Cusack Cup.

“They were soundly trounced by a go-getting Kilmihil side in a game that was spectacular, in that the underdogs did everything that was expected of the winners.

It can hardly be said that Kilmihil have had a distinguished run in recent times, and their story was usually one of a gallant bid rather than a convincing victory. But on Sunday Kilmihil men served notice that they have arrived, and will have to be reckoned with. True enough Cooraclare were part architects of their own defeat, through fielding without such stalwarts as B. Sheedy, and O. Egan, but even this cannot detract from the performance of Kilmihil, the winners giving a facile display of good, open football, that was entirely adequate to the occasion. The game, refereed by Michael Boyle was clean throughout, and provided grand entertainment in the sunshine. On a day in which forwards dominated backs the Kilmihil spearhead displayed all the enthusiasm of an Israeli offensive. Man-of-the-match was the winners’ Paudie Halpin, who scored freely from all angles. Kilmihil had also stalwarts  in John Mc Mahon, Michael Normoyle, and Martin Murphy, a very useful corner-forward.”

In July Kilmihil beat Tullaroe in the Senior Championship on a score of 5-8 to 1-0.

Team: Jim Anglim, Dan Finucane, Dominic Mc Mahon, Sean Murphy, Teddy Murphy, Henry Sheehan, Liam O’Halloran, Michael Normoyle, P.J. Keogh, Paudie Halpin, Kevin O’Halloran, Thomas Mc Mahon, Tom Downes, Martin Murphy & John Mc Mahon.

The next Senior Championship tie was in August against Doonbeg and this game ended in a draw. The score was: Kilmihil 0-5       Doonbeg 1-2.

Doonbeg won the replay 1-9 to 1-4.

On 10th September 1967 Kilmihil played Kilmurray Ibrickane in the Semi-Final of the Cusack Cup at Miltown Malbay and the game ended in a draw.

The replay took place on 8th October and Kilmihil won.
