In the first round of the 1989 Senior Championship Kilmihil met Corofin at Lahinch on 11th June and Kilmihil ran out easy winners on the score of 4-8 to 2-0.

Scorers: James Pender 2-3, Gerry O’Grady 2-2, James Downes 1-2, Stan Lineen 0-1 (free).

On 2nd July 1989 Kilmihil met St. Joseph’s Miltown Malbay in the quarter-final at Doonbeg in a closely fought contest where the sides were level six times before James Pender kicked the winning point to leave the final score Kilmihil 0-9  Miltown Malbay 1-5.

Alan Daly gave an exhibition of high fielding at full-back while at mid-field Michael Keating impressed. Michael Lineen, Gerry O’Grady and James Downes were impressive in the forwards.

Cusack Cup

Kilmihil had 7 straight wins in the Cusack Cup and topped the table with 14 points to qualify for the semi-final even with three games still to play.
